Step-by-Step Guide: Craft a Cat 😺

Step 1

Cut a piece of thin coloured paper so it wraps exactly once around your cardboard toilet or kitchen roll. The easiest way to get the right size is to place the paper against the roll and mark the required length and width with a pencil.

Step 2

Glue the trimmed paper around the roll using a Pritt Glue Stick. Press the paper down firmly and smooth it out so no creases remain.

Step 3

Draw the cat’s head, paws, ears, and tail on thicker coloured paper and carefully cut out all the pieces. You can freehand the shapes or use our handy printable template at the end of this guide.

Step 4

Decorate the separate pieces however you like. Draw a snout and whiskers, add tiger stripes to the tail, or glue on extra elements to make your art and craft cat unique.

Did you know?

For young makers who love to get creative, Pritt Glue Sticks and Pritt Multipurpose Glue make every project simple and mess-free. They’re solvent-free, long-lasting and wash out easily. Add a splash of colour with the Pritt Colour Stick to make your creations stand out.

Step 5

Glue the finished head and paws to the cardboard roll: fix the head at the back (facing forward) and the paws at the front. It’s best to use your Pritt Glue Stick and hold everything in place with pegs until dry.
Tip:
The head sticks best if you use an extra strip of paper as a connector. Cut a short strip of thick paper, glue one end to the back of the head, then attach the head to the roll using the strip.

Step 6

Now make the base of your pencil holder. Stand the roll on a piece of thick coloured paper and trace around it with a pencil. Then draw a slightly larger circle around your first one. A glass or cup makes a perfect guide for this.

Step 7

Cut along the outer circle to create the base and glue it to the bottom of your cat pencil holder using Pritt Multipurpose Glue. Remember, the glue goes on white but dries transparent.

Step 8

Finally, glue the tail to the back of your cat and let everything dry thoroughly. Your cat-themed pencil holder is now ready to use!
