How to Craft Birds: Step by Step 🐦

Step 1

Draw the parts for your bird’s body and beak, as well as the branch and leaves, onto coloured paper. The easiest way is to use our Bird Craft template, which you’ll find at the end of this guide. Carefully cut everything out.

Step 2

Time to start gluing! First, check the folding direction of your card, so your bird sits the right way on the front. Place the card in front of you with the fold facing away. Glue the branch slightly above the bottom edge using a Pritt Glue Stick.

Step 3

Next, work on your bird. Turn the bird body over, so the back faces you. Apply a thin strip of glue along the beak and attach it to the head.

Step 4

Turn the bird back so the front faces you and glue it onto the card. Position it so it looks like it’s sitting naturally on the branch.

Step 5

Arrange the cut-out paper leaves however you like—dense or sparse. Once you’re happy, glue all the leaves in place with the glue stick.

Step 6

It’s time for the eye! Cut an oval or elongated piece of paper for the main part of the eye. You can use white or another colour. Then punch small circles in a different colour for the pupil, e.g., black or white.
Tip:
Draw a tiny highlight on the pupil with a pen to make your bird look lively.

Step 7

Glue the pupil onto the base piece of the eye, then attach the complete eye to your bird.

Step 8

Add one or more colourful feathers as wings. If the feathers are too big, trim them slightly. Use Pritt Multipurpose Glue for best results.
