How to make paper bunting:
step-by-step 🎨

Step 1

Squeeze a few blobs of different coloured paints onto a plate or tray – don’t mix them! Dip your flat brush across the blobs so you pick up multiple colours at the same time. Now paint with broad strokes across your paper sheet. Repeat with the second sheet and leave them to dry.

Step 2

For the bunting, you need rectangles in two different sizes. These will form your bunting flags. To create the larger flags, take one sheet and fold it lengthwise.

Step 3

For the smaller bunting flags, cut the second painted sheet along the fold, then fold each strip lengthwise.
Tip:
If you’re short on time or crafting with younger children, sticking to just one flag size can make things a bit simpler – but just as fun!

Did you know?

Don’t toss old magazines just yet! They make perfect flags for your bunting DIY project. Their glossy fully printed pages look just striking and provide extra durability – making your homemade bunting both unique and sustainable.

Step 4

Cut both the large and small folded strips across the width into rectangles.

Step 5

Lay out the string and arrange the rectangles in a pattern along the string – big, small, big, small… or mix it up however you like. Wrap each flag around the string and use Pritt Glue Stick to keep it in place.

Step 6

Cut a triangle into the bottom of each rectangle to create a swallowtail flag shape. Don’t worry about being too precise with your DIY bunting – uneven edges add a little extra charm.

Step 7

Congrats – your DIY bunting is complete! Hang it up across a window, headboard, or shelf. Isn’t it simple and fun to make your own bunting?
