Create your own bookmark:
step-by-step 🎨

Step 1

Take a sheet of white craft card and paint it however you like – be as bold or bright as you want. Your bookworm can be any colour!
Tip:
You can also use coloured card straight away if you prefer.

Step 2

Let the paint dry thoroughly. Then cut out seven roughly equal circles from your painted card.
Tip:
Not confident cutting freehand circles? Or crafting with young kids? Just trace around a glass with a pencil and cut along the line.

Step 3

Glue the circles together so they overlap slightly — this will form the body of your bookworm. A glue stick like Pritts works well here. Press the circles together firmly. Want to make it even cuter? Stagger the circles slightly to give your worm a wavy look.

Step 4

Time to make the head: cut out one more circle, slightly bigger than the others. Again, a glass makes a handy stencil — just pick a larger one than before.

Step 5

Use a hole punch to make two holes near the top edge of the head.

Step 6

Now for the antennae: cut two strips of thin ribbon. Thread one through each hole and knot them on the back to keep them in place.

Step 7

Glue on two googly eyes to give your DIY bookmark some personality — Pritt Multipurpose Glue works best for this. Then add a smile: either cut it out of coloured card and stick it on, or draw it on with a pen.

Step 8

Finally, glue the head to the front of the body. Make sure the antennae are pointing up — now your bookmark made out of paper is ready to crawl into your next chapter!
