Justification

Communication skills through acquiring new vocabulary in a foreign language, to communicate and thereby enrich relationships.

The competence of learning to learn is acquired by implementing play in learning, such as attention, concentration, memory, comprehension and linguistic expression or achievement of motivation, and thus obtaining maximum performance.

Objectives

General

Create a crossword as a group.

Specifics

Contents

  • Recognition and lexical use, forms and characteristics of basic structures in the foreign language, previously used.
  • Association of spelling, pronunciation and meaning from written models, oral expressions known and establishing analytical spelling - relationships of sounds.
  • Reflection on own learning and acceptance of error as part of the process.

Methodology

Materials:

white paper, markers, scissors, coloured foam sheets, Pritt Stick and coloured paper.

Duration:

2 sessions of 1 hour

Step by Step:
 

Step 1

To start making the crossword, divide the class into groups. In their groups the students will make letters to use in the activity.

Step 2

Draw squares onto the foam sheets

Step 3

When they are drawn, cut the squares so the base is ready for the letters.

Step 4

Using a black marker, write letters onto the white paper and cut them out. It would be a good idea to put a number in the corner of each piece of paper so you know how many letters have been made. The picture below shows how many points you score for each letter.

Step 5

As the children make the letters you can encourage them to practice the correct pronunciation of each of them.

Step 6

Having completed all of them, stick the letters on to the foam sheets using Power Pritt Stick and you can start creating the crossword. The first group will form a word and stick it on to the coloured paper, the second will have to be another word using the first letter, and so on. Remember all words must be written in English and correctly. The winning team is the one that gets the highest score.

Extension Activity

To further expand the activity, you can use the letters you have made to reinforce what the students have learned in Literacy. For example to learn the differences between nouns, verbs and adjectives you could make rules where you can only use nouns.
