Have you ever wondered how you can make a robot on your own? We have put together this craft project for you so that you can create your own real space team out of paper. Robots are the most supportive friends of astronauts when they go on their exciting journeys. Help the robot and the astronaut to discover foreign planets together. Look out for extra-terrestrials: Will they be friendly or do you have to be prepared for trouble? You decide how the story continues.
First, cut out all the templates along the solid lines.
To make the robot, start with its head. Fold the template along the dotted lines. Carefully fold the antennae in the middle and stick them together so that the pattern can be seen on both sides. Then apply a generous amount of Pritt craft glue on the marked tabs and glue the template together to form a cube. Take a quick look at the pictures to see if you are doing everything right.
Now start making the robot's body by folding the template along the dotted lines. Fold the feet in the middle and stick them together so that the pattern can be seen on both sides. Then apply a generous amount of Pritt craft glue on the tabs and stick the robot’s body together in the same way as the head.
Fold the robot’s arms along the dotted lines as well and stick them together so that the pattern can be seen on both sides. Then glue them on the sides of the body.
Now only the head is missing. Apply a generous amount of glue on the bottom of the head and carefully press it onto the robot body.
The robot also needs a real space landscape. First, stick the two background templates together on the marked area with enough glue.
Now fold this moon and space background along the dotted line so that the colourful sides are facing outwards at first. Cut along the solid lines on the picture and then fold the card out the other way so that the white sides are facing outwards. Ask your parents for help if it is too tricky.
Then fold the two sides with the cuts towards the front. Stick the non-printed side of the card, except the cut out areas, to a piece of card or the cornflakes box and fold it at a right angle again so that the moon landscape stands on the table and the sky is facing upwards.
Now use the Pritt glue stick to glue the cut-out volcanic crater onto the protruding strip of paper on the right to make a great 3D effect. The left-hand, wide strip of paper creates an exciting moon cave that can hide all sorts of things.
To make the astronaut, fold the template down the middle and fold the coloured blocks inwards. The figure is now triangular. Stick the two bottom tabs together using your Pritt glue stick so that the astronaut can stand up. Do the same with the aliens.
Of course, your space team will want to place a flag on the moon! You can decorate your flag however you like. Do you want to draw your national flag or make up your own? Then fold the template down the middle and fold the coloured tabs inwards. The flag is now triangular. Stick the two bottom tabs together so that your flag stand up well.
To make the robot’s moon environment a little more realistic you can craft some moon craters. Simply apply a generous amount of Pritt glue stick on the tab, then roll and stick the crater together and place it wherever you like. Now the robot can start exploring this exciting planet!

Tipps & Tricks
Ask your parents to help you with cutting out – some parts are a little tricky. It is best to use craft glue for the smaller areas and Pritt glue stick for the larger ones.
To make the figures more stable, you can stick them onto craft paper before. Then they will stand up really well!
If you print the robot out a little bigger, you can also attach the arms to the body with two brass fasteners. Then they can move.
